MASSKARA FESTIVAL 2009 OFFICIALLY OPENS

 

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia officially opened the MassKara Festival 2009 last night with an opening program at the Bacolod public plaza that was followed by  fireworks and a concert sponsored by festival co-sponsor San Miguel Beer.

 

Addressing the crowd composed of early MassKara visitors and revelers, Leonardia said the next 19 days will be a family-oriented celebration with the Silver MassKara Festival Organization Inc. introducing revisions to ensure a party atmosphere all through-out the festivity. Read more»

Electric MassKara transformed to ledge dancing

 

This year’s Electric MassKara on Oct. 16 to 18, 2009 will no longer have a parade. Instead, the public will witness the first electric ledge dancing competition, festival director Eli F.J.Tajanlangit announced today.

 

The ledge dancing competition is one of the new things to be introduced this year to address the huge crowds that come to watch the Electric MassKara,  Tajanlangit said.  So they can be seen and appreciated properly. Read more»

THE FESTIVAL LOGOS AND TROPHIES

 

Each year, the organizers pick one visual artist in Bacolod to capture the year’s theme and creative impulses in its logo and trophies.  This began with Peque Gallaga who designed the logo in 2004,  the logo which was retouched for the succeeding years. In 2006, on the suggestions of Bacolod teachers, the trophies of the street dancing competition were designed by Charlie Co who was followed by Dennis Ascalon in 2007 and Jose Carreon, Jr. in 2008, all of them putting their stamp on the basic form that Charlie created.  Read more»

Lease applications for MassKara food kiosks ongoing

 

Application to lease food and drinks kiosks around the public plaza for the upcoming MassKara Festival is still being accepted.

 

The festival site office, located at the MassKara Office, Tourism Center along San Juan Street, will be open at 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. to process applications and those interested are requested to bring original and photocopies of their residence certificates. Read more»
